Research Fellowships for Young Italian Surgeons 2012 / 2013

AISNA (Association of Italian Surgeons in North America) with the support of ISSNAF (Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation) is calling applications for:

    Clinical Research in Surgical Oncology
    New York University School of Medicine, Division of Surgical Oncology

  • All clinical, observation-only fellowships are non-funded and have a duration of 12 months
  • Candidates must hold an Italian Medical Degree and be fluent in English

  • An AISNA Review Board will complete selections by April 15th, 2012
  • The decision of the Review Board is final
  • The fellow will be responsible for his/her visa filing and for his/her traveling, housing and food expenses
  • The fellow will agree to maintain (at his/her own expenses) health insurance while in the US
  • The fellow will not receive any direct or indirect money compensation from the host Institution
  • The fellow will be mainly responsible for retrospective and prospective chart review for creation and maintenance of clinical databases
  • The chart review will be done in accordance with the instructions provided by the investigators responsible for each clinical database
  • The fellow will be granted first authorship in any manuscript that he/she would like to elaborate based on existing records or on the data that he/she has generated – the final draft of the manuscript will need to be approved by the supervising faculty before submission for publication
  • Non-first name authorship will also be granted in a number of manuscripts generated by other investigators – the number of papers with the fellow listed as author will be proportional to the amount of work spent in research during the fellowship
  • The fellow will be able to observe major or interesting cases in the operating rooms, clinics and wards of the host Institution, however he/she may not scrub in cases nor have any direct interaction with patients
  • The fellow will be allowed to participate to the major conferences, meetings and grand rounds at the host Institution
  • The fellow will be provided with host Institution ID and have access to the Institution’s buildings, hospitals, intranet and on-line library.
